United World Colleges Scholarship Program - 2010 Intake

  

The United World Colleges National Committee of Vietnam (UWC Vietnam) has the honour to announce the launch of the Vietnam Intake 2010 of the United World Colleges Scholarship Program. This scholarship program is for grade 11 students to gain an International Baccalaureate degree at one of the United World Colleges in the world. Full scholarships cover tuition, room and boarding for two years at school. Otherwise indicated, full scholarships do not include travel, pocket money and medical insurance. 

 

Scholarships available for the Vietnam Intake 2010:

Full scholarships

  1. United World College of South East Asia, Singapore
    Travel, pocket money and medical included
  2. Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific in Canada
  3. Armand Hammer United World College, USA
    400 USD medical insurance
  4. Li Po Chun United World College in Hong Kong
  5. Red Cross Nordic United World College, Norway
    Medical deposit required
  6. United World College of Maastricht, The Netherlands
    Including medical insurance
  7. United World College of the Adriatic, Italia


Partial scholarships

  1. Mahindra United World College of India
    Student pays 44% of the scholarship value (about USD 7,500 per year) and other fees.

 

Requirements

1. General requirements:

•    Vietnamese citizens and currently living in Vietnam
•    Currently enrolling in Grade 11 at Vietnamese schools, and
•    Born between January 1993 and June 1994.

 

2. Program requirements 

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following qualities: 

•    Academic strengths which indicate a strong likelihood of success in the IB program.
•    The ability to communicate in English.
•    The ability to be a good Ambassador for Vietnam in the environment of a UWC.
•    The willingness and the ability to befriend and learn from people whose ideas, beliefs and cultural backgrounds may be very different from their own.
•    The ability to gain the most from the opportunity and to contribute to the college life. Relevant qualities include, but not limit to, commitment to service, openness of mind, enthusiasm, balance, good humour, the ability to thrive in a foreign environment, emotional strength, and physical fitness.
•    An active contributor to the life of their school and/or wider community.
•    Involvement in cultural, artistic or sporting activities.

3. Preferences

Other things being equal, preference will be given to a student who would not otherwise have access to such an experience or who would gain the most from the opportunity. Therefore, students from rural and remote areas and students from disadvantage background are encouraged to apply for this program.

Selection Process
Qualified candidates must send their completed applications by post to UWC Vietnam before Friday, April 2nd, 2010.

 

UWC Costa Rica
A number of applicants will be invited for group and individual interviews in Hanoi. Interviewees from other cities and provinces are expected to pay for their own travel costs but can stay at UWC families in Hanoi if needed. Selected applicants will be nominated by UWCVN to the relevant United World Colleges in April 2010 and the United World Colleges will confirm their acceptance to the student directly. New scholars are normally arriving at their United World Colleges in August.

Application Instruction

 

Filling in the form:
- Fill in the form by hands, using black ink pens.
- Use English for parts to be completed by applicants. Use Vietnamese or English for parts to be completed by other people.
- Use only spaces provided in the form.
- Letters of recommendation could be enclosed in the application in envelops sealed by the referees.
- School records should be justified with seals from schools. You can provide in separate papers or copies of your school record book (no need for notarising).

 

Applying:
Completed applications should be sent by post to reach the UWC Vietnam at the following address before Friday April 2nd, 2010.

Applicants should keep a copy of the application and the note of receipt from the post office.
  

Interviewing:
UWC Vietnam will contact and instruct applicants if selected for the interviews. Interviews will take place in Hanoi. Selected applicants will have to pay for travel costs if any but can be arranged to stay with UWC families in Hanoi if requested.

 

Important notes:
- Do not submit the application directly.
- No telephone contacts please.
- Late applications will not be considered.
- Applicants will receive results announcement by email when the selection is complete.
